Therapy With Zahra

About Zahra

How I work

My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and paced with care. EMDR Therapy, Ego State Therapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy inform my work.

I am interested not only in symptoms, but in the patterns beneath them. Many of the ways we cope make sense in light of what we have lived through. In therapy, we work to understand those patterns rather than judge them. From there, change becomes more possible.

Awareness Precedes Change

Many of the responses that create difficulty in the present have understandable roots in earlier experiences. Emotional reactions, thought patterns, and ways of coping often develop in response to what was needed at the time.

Therapy is not only about reducing symptoms. It is also about understanding the function those patterns have served. That understanding can reduce self-blame and make change possible.

Background

My background includes working with adults in hospitals, prisons, community mental health settings, and group private practice in both Kenya and the United States over the last 10 years.

I also have specialised experience working with humanitarian workers and media professionals operating in hostile environments across the United States, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
